For "Steel Wheels"

The dictionary defines "zephyr" as a gentle breeze; however, where bombing's concerned, I prefer the image of a tornado. I got my name from a brand of surfboards that was popular in the 70's; when I started writing the name in '77 it seemed long - too many letters. Eventually I rocked it anyway. Besides, some of my friends - CRUNCH, REVOLT, and SHADOW- were rocking the six-letter thing.

In the good old days I spent alot of time by myself in the subway yards and lay-ups. However, over the years I've had the pleasure of some great partnerships with artists such as DONDI, FUTURA, REVOLT, NOC, RASTA, MACKIE, VANDAL, and many others just as important to me.

The writer I credit as my graffiti mentor is LSD-OM, a true living legend and master from the very early days of New York graffiti, who founded The Rebels in 1973. In 1992 we did a couple of pieces together for old times' sake; real writers never fully retire. Especially real Rebels.

Since '92 I've been getting busy again. The last year I painted trains was '84, so I'm a bit rusty. Pink and Smith turned me on to painting freights just last year; at the time I didn't know anything about it. Now I call it "The National Movement".

Since I've started painting again I feel rejuvenated. There's alot I didn't do my first time around, and now I'm getting another chance at it. Hell, some people never get a chance at all. I feel very lucky.
