WWWhatsup New Order Pins
Around 82 I got very close to new Order. Barney once drove me from London to manchester in his Merc. I was scared stiff the whole way. Gave the band their first London show in the 'Dub Club' held at Ladbroke Grove's Talbot Tabernacle. Also arranged for them to play Glastonbury that year where they nonplussed the farmer by declaring full-bodied support for the nuclear deterrent..
It just so happened that, when I moved to LA in 83 they arrived the same week to tour. Went on the road with them. Sat next to David Geffen in the dressing room. A cabbie friend of Ginger's hooked me up with a Buick 1965 LeSabre for like $350. Boy! What a battleship.
When I restarted the pinstand in 86 at the Ritz, the resident DJ was also N.O.'s touring DJ so always was in touch with the music. However the last time I saw I went to set up a pinstand at a NYC Roxy around 90, Ginger had me and the pinstand thrown out of the show, while my 'friends' in the band looked on dumbly. Guess I didn't really give enough thanks for that auto hook ups. Ah well.
5/25/99: Very sorry to hear of death of Gretton. Rob was very much the glue that held Joy Div, and Factory itself together. Patient, steady, and wryly humorous.

I'd heard a few years ago that he'd given up the smoke, (he was an ardent inhaler back in the day) so I'd guessed there might be some kind of health concern.
